Smile Train Launches the First-Ever Filipino Language Speech App!
Smile Train Speech App! |
Smile Train, the world's leading cleft charity, just proved that if there's a will, there's a way! This organization has been providing patients access to comprehensive cleft care service through diagnosis, feeding and nutrition, surgery, dental and ENT care, speech services, orthodontics, counseling and support.
Smile Train Impact |
The Covid-19 pandemic that started in 2020 made it challenging for patients to avail consultations and speech therapy sessions. But Smile Train is determined to provide service that they came up with:
- Speech Telehealth Program - Includes speech therapy, nutritional support, breastfeeding guidance for mothers of babies with clefts, pre-surgical consultations, and psychosocial care;
- CLEFT CON - A series of online discussions on the different comprehensive care services. These can be found on Smile Train Philippines' Facebook Page; and
- The First-Ever Mobile Speech App in Filipino designed for kids born with cleft palate
I downloaded the mobile app which is currently available on Google Play (soon on App Store). Developed by Nifty Hero who advocates in helping non-profit organizations, the first thing I noticed in this app are its colorful graphics, lively music, and user-friendly navigation well-suited for kids. You may find the package "heavy" on your phone or tablet as it is designed to be used even without internet connection.

The app is intuitive to use and it comes with tutorial that is easy to follow. There are different stages so you can track the progress, and the video guides are clear and definitely helpful.
Smile Train App - Stages |
The Smile Train Language Speech App enables patients with cleft to still be able to start their speech therapy sessions with the help and guidance from parents or guardians. This also encouraged Speech Pathologists to partner with Smile Train, and in fact, the lead content creator of this mobile app, Veronica Yu, is a speech pathologist herself.
