Maleficent Mistress of Evil: 4 Take-Notes before Watching the Sequel this October 2019!
Disney's Maleficent Mistress of Evil |
Well, well... I get to watch Maleficent Mistress of Evil on its advance screening two days before its official showing on October 16, 2019. It was also the first time that Ayala Malls Manila Bay, the biggest Ayala Mall to date which opened last September 26, 2019, held its first movie preview on their A-Giant Movie Screen. There are back row special seats which I would imagine are perfect line-of-sight views, add to that the reclining comfortable seats. But I was seated on the fourth row and from that view, a giant screen with a size of almost twice of a normal one is too much and I had difficulty focusing on the screen.
Watching Maleficent 2 with my 5-year-old boy |
Rated G (General Audience), I watched Maleficent 2 with my 5-year-old son so expect the notes listed here are greatly affected by how we both perceived the movie. Here you go:
- Perfect If You've Watched Maleficent 1; If Not, At Least Be Familiar With Sleeping Beauty. I honestly cannot remember if I watched the first Maleficent movie. But I've known the fairy tale since I was a kid that is why I didn't really get lost when this sequel started with an assumption that the audience is familiar with the base story
- It Is Balanced In A Way That It Is Not Too Heavy For Young Kids, But Still Entertaining For Adults. It is not the usual teeny-weeny fairy tale the kids would love. There were even scenes that pinched my son's heart he almost didn't want to watch the other parts. But it was quick to ensure recovery so as not to leave young audiences with emotional downtime

- It Is Fierce, Humorous, and Mesmerizing. It is a modern fairy tale where women take on the center stage. Banters between Angelina Jolie and Michelle Pfeiffer are never less of fierceness and humor. The scenes are visually mesmerizing and a great representation of the fantasy and mythology where the story is based upon
- As With Fairy Tales, It Has Key Take Aways. Maleficent 2 is oozing with fierceness but is also filled with heart. It is also a lesson of individuality and unity at the same time. I'd say it's not the gentlest way to show and teach kids about life, but a good transition to softly bite them with reality that a happy ending sometimes may have some sacrifices
I tried not to spoil the movie but I hope this made you interested to go and see Maleficent Mistress of Evil in cinemas nearest you, or why not try the A-Giant Screen of Ayala Malls Manila Bay.
