Year after year, I've been looking forward to REP's Theater for Young Audiences (RTYA) as this is the perfect venue to expose my son to theater. For me, there's no amount of movie shows, whether shown in 2D, 3D, or 4D, that could ever be as realistic as watching, hearing, and even interacting with the actors live!

This year, REP is taking a break from fairy tales thus, giving us a Filipino classic -- The Quest for the Adarna. Directed by Joy Virata, Jamie Wilson, and Naths Everett, with music by Rony Fortich, and book and lyrics by Luna Griño-Inocian, this epic tale will run from September 14, 2019 to January 26, 2020 at the OnStage Theater, Greenbelt 1, Makati City.

Colorful and majestic! From the kingdom of Berbania ruled by King Fernando and Queen Valeriana, to the mountain of Tabor where the brothers Prince Pedro, Prince Diego, and Prince Juan did their quest to find the Adarna to cure their father's illness, everything was done in a delightful and enchanting way that captured the audiences of all ages.

Back in my school days, we were required to read this tale. Although it is an interesting story, the younger me still had to "drag" myself to start reading it. That's why I envy the kids nowadays because REP is offering a wonderful and engaging way to appreciate and understand our very own classic folktale. The story has been simplified yet never lost the moral and essence. There's a mix of shadow play, puppetry, and "kuroko" to portray this classic, while letting the audience run their imagination wild.

Not only entertaining with its marvelous stage setup and costume design, well-loved music, and brilliant acting, The Quest for the Adarna, an original RTYA English musical, is also educational recommended to teachers, students, and parents.
