H&M: Drive for Sustainable Clothing through H&M Conscious Exclusive 2018 Collection!
H&M launches Conscious Exclusive 2018 Collection |
The world is changing, natural resources are diminishing. We often hear the call to action to conserve water and energy, or to manage wastes, but did you know that even with our clothing, we can find ways to have less impact to the environment? This is what H&M is pushing for -- the use of recycled materials to create sustainable fashion.
Last March 24, 2018 at the Museum Cafe, Makati City, H&M held a Roundtable Discussion on Environmental Consciousness and Sustainability. The event was attended by Antoinette Taus (advocate for the United Nations' Sustainable Development, and founder of Communities Organized for Resource Allocation (CORA)), Vincent V. Hilomen, PHD (Executive Director for
Priority Programs, Biodiversity Management Bureau - Department of Environment and Natural Resources (BNB-DENR)), His Excellency Ambassador Harald Fries, and H&M Sustainability Manager Xin Yi Wong.
On April 19, 2018, H&M launched its H&M Conscious Exclusive 2018 Collection worldwide. H&M Conscious Exclusive started in 2012 and showcases exquisite and modern garments made from sustainable materials. This year, the inspiration came from the Arts and Crafts movement in Sweden, and highlights the use of ECONYL®. This material is made from fishnets and other nylon waste creating a sheer fabric as shown in Patti's and Antoinette's dresses.

It is a challenge to make eco-friendly garments but H&M is determined with their goal of making use of fabrics all from sustainable resources by 2030. The Conscious Exclusive Collection are intricate pieces meant for special occasions. But for a day-to-day wear, we can help by simply being conscious consumers, supporting companies who are into sustainable fashion, purchasing clothes with green label, and simply taking care of our clothes to make them last.
Industrial Designer Vito Selma |
Part of the celebration and in support to sustainable fashion, award-winning furniture and industrial designer Vito Selma revealed his new art installation at Greenbelt, Makati. This art made use of fishnets and other recycled materials. Best seen at night as they glow while pearl-like pieces glisten with light.
