Kambingan ni Apong: Kalderetang Kambing, Sizzling Bulalo, and more!
Kambingan ni Apong |
They say first impression lasts and so when you try something for the first time, it better be good! It was my first time to try kambing (goat meat) and I had it at Kambingan ni Apong located at Bagtikan Street, Makati City.
located at Bagtikan Street, Makati City |
Kambingan ni Apong is one of the restaurants in/beside Arkipelago, an Art-Eat-Play-Go destination in Makati. The place isn't so spacious, can handle probably around 20-30 people, but the comfort of the Ilocano staples and goat dishes would keep you warm.

So, how was my experience with various the Filipino food they serve, especially the goat dishes? Checkout the details below.

Chicharong Bulaklak (270Php)
Chicharong Bulaklak |
This is the kind of "bulaklak" (flower) I would love to receive! Oh the calories of this Chicharong Bulaklak, but I love the absolute crunchiness! A plus that I didn't find it too salty, just well seasoned.
Chicharong Bulaklak | Dagupan Bangus |
Dagupan Bangus (190Php)
Dagupan Bangus |
This Dagupan Bangus gave a similar flavor to what I have been accustomed to -- marinated with vinegar and garlic. I prefer it this way, simple, a bit sour, and with toasted garlic toppings bringing out the bangus goodness.
Kare Kare (275Php)
Kare Kare |
Kare Kare and bagoong is a perfect combination and a common favorite Filipino dish. But lately, I'm having this preference on kare kare that doesn't need bagoong because the sauce itself is flavorful enough. This Kare Kare from Kambingan ni Apong satisfies that -- with or without bagoong, it's good and has peanut sweetness! The only thing I'm lacking, and this is again based on personal preference, is the creaminess of the sauce and more meat.
Kare Kare | Krispy Pata |
Krispy Pata (490Php)
Krispy Pata |
One of the best sellers is this Krispy Pata. With its definitely crunchy pork skin and tender meat, dipped in sukang paombong and soy sauce combination, who could resist this famous dish?
Sizzling Bulalo (360Php)
Sizzling Bulalo |
It's not the traditional way of preparing bulalo, but Sizzling Bulalo is becoming common these days. Here at Kambingan ni Apong, the beef shank is oh-so-tender your fork nor your teeth won't have a hard time chewing. What makes this even more special is the mushroom gravy that is so yummy and truly enjoyable!
Sizzling Bulalo |
Adobong Kambing (full - 275Php, half - 170Php)
Adobong Kambing |
Time for the first goat dish -- Adobong Kambing! For a first timer, I would recommend this as you would still be able to distinguish eating goat meat versus other meat but the experience isn't drastic. What I noticed with goat meat is that it has slight spiciness and a pungent aftertaste similar to lamb. Cooking it with mainly vinegar and soy sauce as in adobo complemented the strong yet distinct flavor of goat meat that's why this became my favorite dish among those that were served.
Adobong Kambing | Kalderetang Kambing |
Kalderetang Kambing (full - 295Php, half - 170Php)
Kalderetang Kambing |
Next goat meat dish, and one that is so famous is the Kalderetang Kambing. Tender meat, definitely flavorful and a bit spicy sauce, this dish is making it easy for anyone to love goat meat. But as for me, I still need some getting used to.
Kambing Sisig
Kambing Sisig |
Chopped, sizzling, and topped with egg, Kambing Sisig is another way to serve goat meat. For this dish, the goat's distinct flavor is noticeable with a slight slimy/slippery texture.
Kambing Sisig | Sizzling Pork Sisig |
Sizzling Pork Sisig (230Php)
Sizzling Pork Sisig |
If Kambing Sisig is not your thing, don't worry because you can always order this meaty and yummy Sizzling Pork Sisig. It is mildly to almost-not spicy by default but you can always chop the chili and mix it in for the needed kick.
Leche Flan (90Php)
Leche Flan |
Dessert, anyone? After a sumptuous Filipino meal filled with savory dishes, a serving of Leche Flan would always be welcome. Sweet, smooth, and creamy, though I find it too small for the price as it is only good for one.
I don't know much restaurants that offer goat dishes. But if you are like me who wanted to go for it, Kambingan ni Apong is one of the recommended places to visit. Not only it is guaranteed that they specialize in goat courses, you can also find several comforting Filipino dishes that are truly delicious. Plus is that it is conveniently located in Makati so when the craving strikes, you know where to go.
