I am a first-time mom to a now three-year old adorable boy. And though motherhood doesn't come with a manual, I am a firm believer that experience is the best teacher. That is why as much as possible, I let my son play and explore especially that he is now at the age when he is more curious about a lot of things. Discovery, imagination, confidence, physical strength, as well as socialization are just some of the benefits of having more active playtime. And of course, these are also great time to bond with our kids.

When Johnson's launched its Johnson's Active Kids Playcation campaign last Friday, May 19, 2017 at SM Southmall Activity Area, I gladly participated as I support the cause. The activity area became a huge playground filled with play pods that encourage imaginative and active play among kids.

The playground was open to the public, free entrance, for two days, May 19-20, where kids ages 3-7 years old can freely play. After which, the set up will be moved to other communities as part of the campaign.

Filled with rubber mats, children are encouraged to use their imagination and thinking skills to copy an image. They are also free to use the rubber mats to build castles, tents, or whatever comes into their minds.

In this maze, the goal is to collect hidden items inside the dragon within a specific amount of time. This stimulates the sense of motivation and following directions among children. For little ones, this can be a perfect venue for role playing.

Consisting of huge beams and blocks, kids' creativity and imagination are stirred up so they can build structures. Their strengths are also developed as they carry the huge blocks from one place to another.

I brought home a Johnson's Active Kids Imagination Parcel for my son. The box contains various items such as cups, straws, papers, colored pens, clay, etc. My initial thought was: the things are so random, what will my son do with these? But when my son opened it, he was so delighted and started playing with just these things. There's the pretend play that he is a smoothie maker where he stuffed the cups with clay and wooden shapes then placed the straw. He also tried to inflate the balloon using the straw. There were a lot of ideas and I know there will still be in the coming days. I'm just amazed how these simple and some commonly-seen items can already trigger my son's imagination and discovery, that expensive toys are not really necessary.
