Palm Grill |
There's a new place along Tomas Morato, Quezon City serving fantastic chicken dishes. Palm Grill just opened on the first week of March 2017 yet people are already raving about their dishes, particularly The Green Chicken.
a sight from the loft | industrial yet classy |
Palm Grill poses an industrial yet classy interior. Its loft-type design provides an elegant high ceiling on the first floor, while a more colorful and feminine atmosphere on the upper storey. A small al fresco area is also available at the loft. Miguel Cabel Moreno, one of the owners, was very hands-on and particular with every detail and even the materials used in designing the place.

Being someone into details myself, I particularly love the hanging light bulbs, the geometric-shaped luminaires, and the pipe door and stair handles. They are essential in providing a rustic yet chic vibe that is not overly done. Interestingly enough, even the restrooms are on-point with the restaurant's theme.

More than the place, attention to details is evident in their food and serving that each of their specialty chicken has a designated plate color: blue for The Green Chicken, gray for Olympus Roast, and yellow for Oswalda's Fried. These dishes are also served in 3 sizes: Solo (quarter chicken with rice and 1 side), Duo (half chicken with 2 sides), and League (whole chicken with 3 sides).
The Green Chicken (Solo - 229Php, Duo - 339Php, League - 649Php)
Our family's favorite comfort food. Inspired by a famous Indo-Malay dish. Slow-cooked in coconut milk and 7 Asian spices then grilled to perfection. Truly "simut-to-the-bones"
The Green Chicken |
The Green Chicken is the house specialty. Slow-cooked in coconut milk, herbs and spices then grilled for that smoky taste, you should now have an idea where the restaurant's name, Palm Grill, came from. The "green" sauce is a family's secret recipe, so secret that they had a factory to pack the formula made of ingredients from Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Philippines to keep the secret and to maintain the quality.
The Green Chicken may not be so enticing to look at, but it's nothing I've tasted before. No, it's not pesto, nor laing. The "gata" or coconut milk is very evident in the taste, but there's a lot more character and depth in it. Pretty hard to describe really but it got me going for spoonfuls one after another, especially with Turmeric Rice. The best advice is to try it and see for yourself.

Olympus Roast (Solo - 229Php, Duo - 339Php, League - 649Php)
Served with our family's own recipe of sweet-tangy peanut sauce that makes this chicken dish taste "fit for the gods"
Olympus Roast |
The Green Chicken was the first I've tried and I was like, "Ah, this is going to be my favorite. The others are just roast chicken and fried chicken". But no, Olympus Roast is not just a roast chicken. The chicken alone is succulent and flavorful. But when paired with the special peanut sauce, divine! I didn't know peanut sauce would go well with chicken, and for this case, it leveled up tri-fold my usual roast chicken experience. Literally craving for it right now.
Olympus Roast | Oswalda's Fried |
Oswalda's Fried (Solo - 229Php, Duo - 339Php, League - 649Php)
Our homage to the owner of this recipe, our family's pride, Historian Oswalda Cabel
Oswalda's Fried |
Last, but not the least, is Oswalda's Fried. For me, this is the simplest and most classic among the dishes. Thinly breaded yet crispy, it appeals to our longing for that homey and comforting food that is not overly flavored but still with hints of lime and spices to tickle the senses. This is nostalgic.
with owners Miguel Moreno and Nelson Canlas |
We all have that family favorite recipes that we look forward during clan reunions or family gatherings. Palm Grill just made theirs available to everyone and at reasonable price. I am glad to have met the part-owners Miguel Moreno and GMA 7 entertainment anchor Nelson Canlas, and to have learned more about the food and the restaurant. I cannot think of any complaints about the food as the dishes have their own personality and are in the best state they can be. Whether you long for something out of the ordinary, with a twist, or traditional; grilled, roasted, or fried, Palm Grill has something to offer to satisfy your mood or chicken craving. Two wishful thoughts I have are [1] dessert as they weren't offering it yet when we dined but I heard this is already on the works and they are preparing traditional desserts not commonly found in restaurants, [2] relative to my place, Quezon City is too far that it won't be too easy to satisfy a Green Chicken craving. So... branch out soon?
