Empanada Nation: Makati Branch Grand Opening
Empanada Nation |
It was Saturday late lunch time when we decided to get my OGTT (Oral Glucose Tolerance Test) result at New World Diagnostics Makati. We plan to eat at Hawker House after, only to find out that they were close during that time. We walked a bit to look for a new place and found Empanada Nation which was on Grand Opening.
Empanada Nation Grand Opening |
There were not much people though I noticed most of their customers go there to take-out empanada. The place has a simple setup of wooden chairs or stools, tables with minimal centerpiece, and pseudo capiz windows on the wall.
It's Self-Service, by the way, so you pay as you order in the counter.

King's Meal (185Php)
Ilocos bagnet, Ilocos longganisa, red/salted egg, KBL (kamatis, bagoong, and lasona), rice, and soup
Empanada Nation King's Meal |
Empanada Nation is not just about empanada. In fact, for the meal side, their King's Meal is one of their best sellers. I even find it a complete meal that is great for breakfast. I really liked the bagnet!
Cripy Dinuguan (112Php)
Ilocos dinuguan
Empanada Nation Crispy Dinuguan |
Crispy Dinuguan is listed among their Ilocano Specialties. I ordered extra plain rice (20Php) as this does not come with rice. My expectation was the usual dinuguan except that the meat would be crunchy. The crispy meat part was achieved, but the dinuguan version was waaayy different from my expectation. So maybe this is how they prepare dinuguan in Ilocos. It was not the usual black maybe-thick sour sauce. It was dry and you can taste more of the "blood" part. The meat is composed of chicharong bulaklak and some crunchy very thin strips of fried pork. It wasn't bad at all but may need some getting used to.
Double Special Empanada (95Php)
Two (2) pieces longganisa, veggies, and one egg
Empanada Nation Double Special |
We were at Empanada Nation and it would just be good to try their empanada. I was only after the Ordinary Empanada (45Php - veggies and egg), but Allen said he also wanted one and opted for the Double Special (he thought that would be 2 pieces of Special Empanada). Too late when we realized that it was just one empanada with 2 pieces of longganisa, resulting to a very meaty empanada.
Since it was their Grand Opening when we dined in, we were given FREE RED ICED TEA. Hooray! Empanada Nation in Makati is their second branch, with the first one being at Sgt. Esguerra Avenue in Quezon City. They also have a food cart in SM Megamall but sells Ilocos Empanada only. There are still a lot of specialties to try in this place such as the Ilocos Miki, Longga Pasta, and Empanachos.
